Welcome to the Studierendenchor Heidelberg! We are a friendly and open-minded choir, consisting mostly of students and alumni from the University of Heidelberg. Every term we rehearse as well as perform a new programme. Our choir distinguishes itself by a variety of styles, alternating between classical choir repertoire and pop-music or even musicals. Because for us the most important aspect is the fun of making music together, we spend a weekend every term outside of Heidelberg, rehearsing and socialising. Although most singers are still studying at University of Heidelberg, we are an independent and self-financing choir.

I never sang/did not sing in a choir for a long time. Am I still allowed to join?

Everyone is welcome, no matter with or without singing experience. We think the joy of singing in a choir should be open to everyone and we do not an audition. It is only important that you have fun singing and are ready to learn and experience something new.

What kind of music do you sing?
We sing songs from all styles and in all languages, from romantic compositions to modern pop songs. Each term has its own theme, into which all the songs fit. Even if some songs are not in German or English - it is not that difficult to sing in other languages, believe us! Of course we practice the right pronunciation during the rehearsals.

Can I simply drop by the rehearsals?

During the first three rehearsals each semester everyone is allowed to come. The rehearsals start at the end of the term-break and in Wintersemester 2022/23 they are on the 20th, 27th of April and on the 4th of May. After these three rehearsals you have to decide whether you want to stay or not. After that you unfortunately have to wait till next term because we want to ensure that everybody has had enough rehearsals to be ready for the concert.

I am already employed / an apprentice / not at university. Can I still join?

Yes, you can! Although most of our singers are students at University of Heidelberg, it is not a requirement. Some of our singers are already finished with university and are still part of the choir while others found us even later and may never have studied.

What if I cannot attend every rehearsal?

We do not track the participation of every member. Just make sure that you do not miss out on too many rehearsals so that you are still ready for the concerts!

Are there any cost?

Since we are an independent, registered society, we self-finance by membership-fees.
Membership fee: 44€ per term
Chamber Choir: additional 33€ per term (only if you join the chamber choir)
Rehearsal weekend with two overnight stays and food: ca. 60€

Fun, a lot of friendly people and a good time: for free! =)

When do you practice?

Every Thursday during the lecture period from 20:00 to 22:00 CET.
Every 4 weeks, each voice type (soprano, contralto, tenor, bass) has its own rehearsal. This takes place before the regular rehearsal from 19:00 to 20:00

Should I bring something?

The music sheets of the current program are distributed at the beginning of the term, of course you have to bring them. It also helps to bring a lead pencil for making notes and something to drink.
